Greetings,
Steve Mlodinow, Dennis Duffy, Ryan Shaw and I did the Whidbey to Samish
route on Saturday. The island was slow; we visited Cultus Bay, Deer Lagoon,
and a number of other localities but found little. Near Deer Lagoon we had a
strange Fox Sparrow, possibly a variant zaboria (Red Fox). Also at Deer
Lagoon, a Common x Green-winged Teal intergrade.

Things picked up in the afternoon. The West 90 wigeon flock included 34
Eurasians. Three Harlan's Hawks a-hunting south of there. Along Bradshaw
Road we stopped for a massive flock of swans, mainly Tundras. At the far end
of the field, Sir Duffy located a young Gyrfalcon. Very seen thereafter,
Steve had a Bewick's Swan not far away from us in the flock. We had
excellent studies of this vagrant subspecies.

116 species for the day.

That's about all for now,
Charlie Wright
