This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Sunday, March 21, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with

The featured bird is ROCK SANDPIPER.


Sightings for March 21

The ROCK SANDPIPER was seen at the south end of the marina at
Point Roberts with BLACK TURNSTONES. From Lighthouse Marine
Park, a RHINOCEROS AUKLET was seen. Along the Lily Point trail
were 2 HUTTON?S VIREOS and a TOWNSEND?S WARBLER.

The GYRFALCON was seen on the Boundary Bay dyke in Delta
between 104th and 112th Streets. Also, at the foot of 112th street, a
EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen.

At Pitt Meadows, 3 SANDHILL CRANES were sighted along Rannie
Road north of McNeill Road. Two CINNAMON TEAL were seen in a
slough south of the entrance to Swan-E-Set Golf Course.

The NORTHERN SHRIKE continues at Boundary Bay Regional Park,
Delta.

At Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver, were 3 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS on the Grebe Islets, and a singing
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER near the lighthouse. Two more BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS were present at the mouth of Cypress Creek, at the
foot of Stearman Ave. in West Vancouver. A singing ANNA?S
HUMMINGBIRD was seen at 4957 Marine Drive, West Vancouver.


Sightings for March 20

The two AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen upstream from the mouth
of the Serpentine River in Surrey.

At Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, a TURKEY VULTURE was seen in
overflight and 2 VIRGINIA RAILS were seen along the elevated
boardwalk.

In Terra Nova at the NW corner of Lulu Island, Richmond, a NORTHERN
SAW-WHET OWL was seen along the south fence line by the golf course.
Also seen here, a CINNAMON TEAL.


Sightings for March 19

Two EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL were seen from Elgin Heritage
Park, off Crescent Road in Surrey.

At the foot of 112th Street at Boundary Bay, Delta, was 1 SHORT-EARED
OWL.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta were an AMERICAN BITTERN
and a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD.


Sightings for March 18

2 AMERICAN AVOCETS continue at the mouth of Serpentine River on
Mud Bay in Surrey. Access is from Mud Bay Park, off Colebrook Road.

>From Colony Farm in Port Coquitlam, a BARN OWL was seen, but
no sign of the GREAT GRAY OWL.


Sightings for March 17

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continues its long stay at 4126 River
Road in Delta. It came to the feeder today at 6:50 am.


Sightings for March 16

At Elgin Heritage Park off Crescent Road in Surrey, a EURASIAN
GREEN-WINGED TEAL and a CINNAMON TEAL were seen.


Sightings for March 15

The ROCK SANDPIPER was once again seen on the low tide
at Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts, Washington, in the
company of 25 BLACK TURNSTONES. Also here were 2
RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and 6 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, and about
30 BRANDT'S CORMORANTS flew by.

At the White Rock pier, a MARBLED MURRELET was sighted.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen near Green Timbers Park, Surrey
