I agree completely, and in further response to the original question, I
would urge that the checklist not be in alphabetic order. Remember that
common names change also and with them, alphabetic order. For instance,
Water Pipit is now American Pipit; Sparrowhawk is Kestrel; and so forth.
Using phylogenetic order, regardless of the scheme, educates beginning
birders. Alphabetic order does not, and it will frustrate anyone who does
know taxonomy.
