Taxonomic, phylogenetic, this system, that system, etc. What to do?

Consider RT Peterson's system of utilizing 8 visual categories for
learning/teaching/identifying birds. I've incorporated it into our website gallery and
I've used it in programs to great effect. The majority of new birders catch on
to this system quite readily because it enables them to learn more about birds
by observing their behavior, as well as their field marks.
His system is mostly faithful to the AOU checklist order and enables us to
use our most valuable asset--our eyes. I never leave home without them!
