Here is the Gap map of Bobcat distribution in WA:

A Bobcat is a more likely sighting almost anywhere in WA than a Lynx. On
the other hand, Deming (in Whatcom Co, on the Nooksack R in a mountainous
area) is close enough to the probable current Lynx range that a Lynx is a
conceivable possibility. Almost all carnivores have individuals, especially
young males, that wander far and wide.

It's really hard to say what it might be from your husbands description. I
wouldn't put too much weight on the size estimate. No offense to your
husband, but most people overestimate the sizes of wild animals they see.
Even if it was a Bobcat, that's a nice sighting. They are common, but
almost never seen. I've never seen one in the wild.
