Subject: Why buy a Watchable Wildlife Decal?

Several people have asked me whether the new Watchable Wildlife Decal
replaces the Vehicle Use Permit, and why we would want to spend the
extra money to buy one. I guess I should have included this information
in my original post.

The new program doesn?t so much replace the sticker as offer an
alternate way of paying for it. If you pay $10 for the Vehicle Use
Permit (the yellow sticker, previously called the Access Stewardship
Decal), the money is used ONLY to pay for maintenance of the DFW access
areas (apparently, there is a lot of vandalism, etc.). Hunters and
fishers get the sticker when they buy a license. If you make the $30
donation to Watchable Wildlife, you do get the sticker (the hanger is
just to make it easier to move it to a second car), but the money all
goes to support the non-game wildlife programs of the DFW, now called
?diversity? programs. It?s a way for us non-consumptive ?users? of
wildlife to support the animals and habitats we care about, and,
importantly, to let the DFW know that non-consumptive uses are important
to us. I know that not everyone can afford the extra $20, but for those
of us who can, it seems like an obvious choice. By the way, the fee for
personalized license plates also goes to diversity wildlife programs.
