12:55pm start - water level low - mudflats visible
1:15pm end

Tweeters,
Cold and blustery on the river today. MEW GULLS were mostly sleeping or preening on the mudflat near the goose-exclusion area to the south until an immature GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL flew in and rousted them. They all took off, circled low on the water in the middle of Turning Basin #3 (TB3), and settled back in at the same spot. Starlings were dripping off many of the metal braces of the power substation, as well as being on the power tower next to SR 599 to the south of my position.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Canada Goose (3; and three's definitely not company, as the apparent intruder found out from one of the two "resident" geese)
Gadwall (6; looks as if there are 3 pairs)
Mallard (2; a pair)
Common Goldeneye (2; both males, one near the power substation and one at the south end of TB3)
Double-crested Cormorant
Mew Gull (31)
Glaucous-winged Gull (8)
Rock Pigeon (14)
Black-capped Chickadee
Bewick's Wren (2; seem to be paired up)
European Starling (180)
Red-winged Blackbird (goose-exclusion area - hunkered down in the cattails; singing occasionally)

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
