Hello Tweeters, not too much going on at Nisqually NWR this afternoon but I
couldn't pass up a trip out in this weather. The only new migrant I
saw/heard today were 4 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, two were calling their 'tched'
notes to one another at the culvert area on the trail to McAllister Creek
and two were over by the Twin Barns. Also watched at least one (could be
two) MINK fishing for frogs in the canal by the Twin Barns and the "Solitary
Sandpiper pond" behind the Headquarters. Watched a COOPER'S HAWK fly
through the south end of the refuge parallel to I-5. A decent woodpecker
day too with a few Flickers, Downys, HAIRYS, and a calling PILEATED.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were singing all over the place. Saw my first female
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year here today.

At the library/city hall area in Lacey I saw a couple of HUTTON'S VIREOS
along one of the trails, one was gathering bits of moss from the Salmonberry
and Vine Maple. They nested here last year and I expect they are trying
again. Heard some PURPLE FINCHES warbling in the Firs too.
