Hello all, another somewhat slow day at Nisqually NWR. So why post? Well
we did see a few new migrants, the south winds seemed to have delivered a
few more birds to us. Keith Brady and I had a small feeding flock
(FALLOUT!! - yeah right) along the interior boardwalk with many Y/Rumped
Warblers and about 4 or 5 bright ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS. We later noticed
a few more further along on our travels. Heard and saw the same 4 species
of woodpeckers, missed the Sapsuckers again. Keith found a female Rufous
Hummingbird sitting on a nest in the bog spur trail, she was still in the
building process but it seems almost finished. Also saw 2 CINNAMON TEAL
drakes on the large ponds off the trail to McAllister Creek. There were 4
drake Eurasian Wigeon mixed in with the Americans in these interior ponds
and out on the Reach. Savannah Sparrows were singing today (can't believe I
didn't see or hear one yesterday during the 70 degree weather?) as were the
newly arrived Common Yellowthroats. Keith saw a flyby Sharpie in the fields
north of the Twin Barns. The Accipiters are on the move, I saw two Cooper's
yesterday and then there were Charlie's birds from Pierce Co.

We heard a Purple Finch on the road to Luhr Beach and counted about 5 EARED
GREBES out in the chop. There were about 3 good sized flocks of BRANT off
the Nisqually Reach with a large swarm of DUNLIN flying about too. These
winds combined with the next few days of decent weather could give us a big
migrant push! Good luck.
