Hi all,
Delia and I had a wonderful time at the Shorebird Festival in Hoquiam where there were many wonderful people as well as birds and we recommend a Bowerman Basin and Grays Harbor visit soon for anyone who missed it. (One highlight was when two year-old Peregrines worked over the same Dunlin for maybe two minutes, diving by turns on the bird maybe 15 times, each time shooting upward at amazing speeds to gain altitude for another dive. The Dunlin eventually circled up and avoided several more direct attacks until he/she got free and that's one Dunlin that isn't going to take life or copepods or anything for granted ever again)
On the way back we stopped in the evening at McClain Creek (Mud Bay Exit near Olympia, then west on Delphi Road, DNR owned land wi Beaver Pond) and found a silent Olive Sided Flycatcher on the top of a tall snag. A Western Tanager and Warbling Vireo and Pacific Slope Flycatcher were also there.
Ed Newbold residential Beacon Hill, where our male Barn Swallow now has a mate. The mud bath in the median is also full of fresh mud for when, hopefully not if they decide to start building. newboldwildlife at netscape.net
