Today there were just a few things in my yard. Four Western Tanagers and a
Black-headed Grosbeak could be heard singing, and a nice Wilson's Warbler
came and bathed in the pond along with Yellow-rumpeds and Townsend's.
Crossbills and Evening Grosbeaks make frequent flyovers. The other day I saw
a strange thing, a Vaux's Swift was flying maybe 50 feet up with a piece of
dried grass or a twig dangling behind it. I didn't realize they could even
pick such items up in their feeble clutches. Pairs of these birds are
constantly courting and wheeling about over my yard, I'm not sure where they
are planning on nesting.
