Oh, dear, I'm afraid it's starting again! Last year, Dennis Paulson had one
of these fantasies where he imagined he was seeing dozens of Western
Tanagers near his office, and now Stewart Wechsler has caught the disease.
So far, he has only a mild case, but any day now he's probably going to be
raving about vast numbers of these little birds all over the place. What is
it with some of you people and Western Tanagers? I wonder if the disease
can be cured by going somewhere where there really are vast numbers of one
species all together (and I don't mean House Sparrows, Starlings, or Crows),
to satisfy some peculiar neurological need. However, I must say that if any
of you again report these vast numbers anywhere that I might reach within an
hour or two, I might just join you and see for myself, because if this is a
fantasy, it seems, at least, to be a pleasant one.
