"RARE BIRD ALERT "
This update is for May 04, 2004
There have been several reports of a GREAT EGRET on the mud flats at the Englishman River Estuary, just off Plummer Road at San Pariel in Parksville. The GREAT EGRET was last seen heading south along the shoreline at Rathtrevor Provincial Park.
The bird appears to be heading south along the coast!

Five SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were seen at the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.
Three BLUE-WINGED TEAL were spotted at the Nanoose Estuary behind the Church Camp in Nanoose Bay.

Monday May 03:
BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen on beach rocks at Sealand Park in North Nanaimo.
A WESTERN TANAGER was sighted in the Long Lake Heights area of Nanaimo.
A pair of RED CROSSBILLS were spotted along Maxey Road in south Nanaimo.
A CINNAMON TEAL was seen in a backyard pond in Cedar.
NORTHERN FLICKERS, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, HOUSE FINCH, PINE SISKINS, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, SPOTTED TOWHEES, DOWNEY WOODPECKERS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were seen at a yard in lower Lantzville.

Sunday May 02:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A GREAT EGRET was seen with GREAT BLUE HERONS at the Marshal Stevenson Wildlife Sanctuary off Kincade Road just north of Qualicum Beach.
Two BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and a YELLOW WARBLER were among the thirty-three species seen on the Sunday bird walk to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

Saturday May 01:
A pair of CINNAMON TEAL were spotted near the viewing tower at the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.
A RED-NECKED GREBE and eleven COMMON MURRE were seen offshore, from the viewing tower just off highway 19A in Qualicum Beach.
A pair of OSPREY, PIED-BILLED GREBES and VIRGINIA RAILS were sighted at Green Lake in north Nanaimo.

Friday April 30:
A WESTERN TANAGER, GREAT BLUE HERON and BULLOCK'S ORIOLE were sighted at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

Thursday April 29:
A HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER was seen off Kaye Road in Parksville.
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and a WINTER WREN were seen at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
A WESTERN TANAGER was spotted at Morrell Sanctuary in Nanaimo.

Wednesday April 28:
Four BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS were seen in the 5300 block of Georgia View Crescent in north Nanaimo.
AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, DUNLIN, KILLDEER, and CHIPPING SPARROWS were seen at Dumont Gravel Pit in north Nanaimo.
VAUX'S SWIFT, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and YELLOW WARBLERS were spotted at the Nanoose Estuary in Nanoose Bay.
RED CROSSBILLS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, EVENING GROSBEAKS, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, PINE SISKINS,NORTHERN FLICKERS and CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES were seen a yard at Cedar by the sea in Cedar.
