Sightings for May 5

At White Lake, near Okanagan Falls, a SAGE THRASHER was reported (NH). From
the intersection of White Lk Road and the Twin Lakes Road travel S. on White
Lk Road for approx a kilometer to where the road dips. The bird was singing
in the sagebrush between here and the lake.

In Westbank, a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was along the trail, close to the
parking area at Shannon Lake Regional Park (MF).

Robert Lake in Kelowna had 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and
at least 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS (CC,RT). SPOTTED SANDPIPERS were also reported
at Shannon Lake Park (MF).

Four CEDAR WAXWINGS were along the boardwalk at the Maude Roxby Bird Sanct.
in Kelowna (CC,RT).

In a late report for May 1, a male EURASIAN WIGEON was at Alki Lake at the
Kelowna Landfill (RT).


Sightings for May 3

In a late report for the evening of May 2, a flock of 5 AMERICAN WHITE
PELICANS alighted on Okanagan Lake just off Manhattan Point in Kelowna (MR).

On the 3rd, at the Maude Roxby Bird Sanct. in Kelowna, WESTERN SANDPIPER,
LEAST SANDPIPER, 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 26 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, an OSPREY, 2
BELTED KINGFISHERS and a SORA were reported (DW,m.ob).

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was on the telephone wires at Robert Lake in Kelowna
(RM).

In Salmon Arm, the flock of over a dozen SNOW GEESE was again present in the
AM along the foreshore. Seen later in the day were 4 SANDHILL CRANES (TH).

At the Chichester Bird Sanct. in Kelowna, 2 SORAS and a VIRGINIA RAIL were
heard after dark (CC).


Sightings for May 2

An egret, reported as a CATTLE EGRET, was seen near Vaseux Lake on May 2
(obs. name?). Confirmation of this bird, which is unrecorded in the spring
in the Okanagan, would be appreciated.

At Rawlings Lake, near Lumby was a male EURASIAN WIGEON (DC).

Mud Bay and the Maude Roxby Sanct. in Kelowna had 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a
WESTERN SANDPIPER, 10 LEAST SANDPIPERS, both CINAMMON and BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
NORTHERN SHOVELER, 2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS foraging on the beach, 5 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS and inside the marsh, a SORA (DW,RM).

Recent sightings from the Salmon Arm foreshore have included a flock of
between 16-21 SNOW GEESE, a CLARK'S GREBE, and 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES (TH).
