OK, since we're heading steadily abroad with this list of books, here's one
of my favorites:
Brehms Heimische Vogel (put an umlaut above the 'o').

I love to thumb through this book, not only to practice my German but also to
reminisce about those wonderful days spent with Baumschwalbes, Grosser
Buntspechts, and Goldenregenpfeifers, to name but a few. Ach, those were the days,
liebchen!
