The following birds were observed by Wayne Weber at Point Roberts,
Whatcom County, WA between about 12 noon and 3:15 PM PDST on
May 11, 2004.

Areas covered were mainly Lily Point and vicinity, forest near the
Point Roberts firehall on Benson Road, and Lighthouse Marine Park.

The highlight was seeing a male PURPLE MARTIN in flight over
Lighthouse Marine Park. The bird was first heard singing, then
circled directly overhead, and finally flew out over Georgia Strait
as if heading for the Gulf Islands. This is my first sighting of
PURPLE MARTIN at Point Roberts in about 35 years of birding there,
and possibly the first sighting there by anyone. Hooray!!

Five breeding-plumage SANDERLINGS at Lighthouse Marine Park were
getting pretty late in the spring.

In addition to the birds, at least four HARBOR SEALS were seen, and
one DOUGLAS SQUIRREL was heard at Lily Point.
