Hi Tweeters,

I visited Weir Prairie in Thurston County this morning and was able to
locate a calling male Northern Bobwhite in the same location reported by
Rolan Nelson in his message from May 9 (Thanks Rolan!). The bird made
several series of calls over an hour period from 0820-0920, but was tucked
away in a thicket of Scotch broom and I never did see it until
accidentally flushing it. Interestingly, at one point, I had the
bobwhite, a California Quail, and a distant Blue Grouse all calling
simultaneously. Other birds of note in the area were Chipping Sparrow
(common), Western Bluebird (3-4 birds), Western Meadowlark (several), and
House Wren (4-5 birds).
