Hi everybody, have seen some fun birds and mammals from the ferry and at the
Bremerton ferry terminal the past few of days. A few below.

PIGEON GUILLEMOT numbers have dwindled since wintertime, but we're seeing
those red feet and legs more often now as they dive.

A pair of alcids that weren't Pigeon Guillemots, looked like basic plumage
Marbled Murrelets from a distance. Dunno. Think that's unlikely, but...

TERN, am assuming CASPIAN but didn't get a good look (had the "B" bins),
sounded like one, though. Very vocal, doing the
dive-and-pull-up-at-the-last-minute thing near the terminal. Heard terns
while aboard the ferry as well.

PELAGIC CORMORANTS, very few these days but they're still around.

BALD EAGLES perch on and hang out near a mothballed navy vessel on the
waterfront. Usually there's at least one on the ship in both the AM and PM.
Yesterday was a PM 3-eagle day: two adults, one immature.

BELTED KINGFISHERs are also in the terminal area.

SEA LIONS on a buoy yesterday, around 35 min out of Seattle. You can tell
it's tourist season when folks on the boat w/funny "accents" (Am. regional
speech) are talking about the big seals.

ORCAS Tuesday, saw 6 of 'em swimming off the starboard side of the ferry.
These are the whales that are now in the Dyes Inlet area. What a rush,
whales and eagles w/in a few minutes of each other. Do we live in a cool
part of the country or what??? Seriously though, if you're up for seeing
Orcas, take a trip over here, Silverdale/Tracyton/Chico/Dyes Inlet is a
short drive from the ferry terminal, and just think how cool they'll look
thru your scope!

SONG and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS abound around the terminal, it's nice to
come home to their songs.

Cheers,
Mary
