a magical day at juanita bay park... in less than one hour, central
boardwalk at the first left turn, we spotted:

* 2 osprey, calling to each other and wheeling overhead... one of the
pictures taken shows a small fish in the claws... i later heard that
another caught a fish in the bay which was promptly stolen by one of the...
* ... several juvenile eagles in attendance, along with numerous
adults...
* a red-tailed hawk, hounded by red-winged blackbirds and crows...
* a male black-headed grosbeak, who decided to pose for the camera for
almost ten minutes...
* no sooner did the grosbeak depart when we were serenaded by the
first of a half-dozen bullock's orioles, both juveniles and adults...
* 3 rufous hummingbirds, all individuals... one photo has the rufous
in flight, but it wasn't facing me (if you know what i mean :)
* numerous cedar waxwings, all in a hurry...
* northern flickers too numerous to mention...
* a downy woodpecker...
* a belted kingfisher (unknown sex, zooming through at light-speed)...
* several american goldfinch (also zooming through)....
* tree, violet-green, and barn swallows in numbers...
* a bewick's wren, singing up a storm near the top of the tallest
willow around...

by the way, most of the above were seen within one 30-minute period, and
then again during solo encores during the next three hours... also on-hand:
several beaver munching on "burrito" lily pads; an eastern grey squirrel
trying to get into someone's vegetarian lunch box; one of the eagles doing
an osprey imitation, diving completely underwater (came up empty)...

photos available on the website later this evening...
