The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is participating in a twenty-six state banding study of Mourning Doves.

There are currently no coordinated or informed management strategies in place for this species. Several state and federal flyway committees have passed resolutions to implement large scale surveys to generate information, which when combined with appropriate population models, can begin to establish structured dove management. This survey is a step towards that goal.

As part of this study, the Region 4 (North Puget Sound) Wildlife Program is soliciting information on locations of Mourning Dove concentrations in King, Snohomish, Island, Skagit, Whatcom, and San Juan Counties for use as potential trapping and banding locations.
