This morning I took a drive out in the foothills to the northwest of the
town of Elma here in Grays Harbor county. My main target was Mountain
Quail, but unfortunately I didn't find any this morning. However, I did
pick up three new year birds and one county first for me today. Here they
are:
Olive-sided Flycatcher - I've been looking hard for one in the county and
finally got one (actually heard 2 today)
Gray Jay - spotted 2 in a stand of fir trees
Western Bluebird - (county first for me) single bird flying back and forth
to a snag where I am presuming there is a nest
MacGillivray's Warbler - one flitting around small fir trees right next to
the bluebird snag
Good birding,
Tim O'Brien
