Brisk north breeze and bright sun with some puffy gray clouds at Turning
Basin #3. I'd not seen a HOODED MERGANSER here since the last day of
March, and that only the second time, but that changed with a sighting
of a female cruising the water just south of the Boeing bridge (SE of
TB3).

The rattle of a BELTED KINGFISHER got closer to me and I scanned the
river for its approach. Again the call, but overhead: two kingfishers
flying stacked about 10 feet apart. The lower bird, a female, eventually
turned and came back toward me, aerobatically making turns and other
maneuvers as it dropped to just above water level.
