About 10 days ago I was up at The Nature Conservancy's property at
Foulweather Bluff in north Kitsap County. Where the trail met the beach we
found four Mt. Chickadees feeding in the tops of the evergreens and around
small bushes on the low bluff above the beach. The bluff is about 15-20
feet high at that point and I guess that's about as close to sea level as
you could get a chickadee without it strolling the cobbled shore.

And to get to that location they had to have to fly across open water either
from east or west. I cannot imagine them flying all the way to the south
end of Puget Sound and then all that way back north just to avoid flying
over water. At that location it's about 3 miles to Tala Point in Jeff. Co.
at the mouth of Hood Canal and about 5 miles east (from Point No Point) to
Whidbey Island.
