Jeez, a Douglas Squirrel, which one seldom sees anymore, taking a couple of American Robin chicks, a bird which has also been called "ubiquitous" because you see it everywhere, in most habitat types, and it's still the robin you help? Chickadees and other birds may need our help sometimes, but robins can fend for themselves. I would gladly give up a couple of robins to see Doug squirrels survive. And I don't say that often. But you know something? That is nature for you.

Hi Guy and Tweets,

I had a Douglass squirrel carry off 3 robin chicks from a nest in a tree
this summer. The squirrel would come each morning and take another chick.
Between the mother robin and I we put up a good battle, though it was all
for nothing.

I was thinking of putting my chickadee houses up on a metal pole, and not in
a tree. But I think the squirrels could get into them anyway.

also does anyone have a description of Eastern Grays vs Western Grays? I
have grey squirrels here though they seem much smaller then the ones at the
park. And their tails are scant in comparison.

thanks in advance
