Hi Tweeters,

Most of my birding is now restricted to work during
the week due to the time change. Working at the U
does have it's advantages, water, trees and shrubbery
offer up a fair number of different birds. The UW
website has campus maps that miss some important
details but give a good gist of where I go. The
Southwest Campus Map shows the University Police
station which is on Boat Street (the street is not
named on the map). Portage bay runs very roughly
north to south. Sakuma Viewpoint park is south of the
police station. I usually bird from Sakuma park south
to the Montlake bridge staying fairly close to the
water. The Montlake bridge is on the South Central
Campus Map. Also on this map is the Fisheries Center
which has a small scale salmon hatchery. The fish
pond is not shown on the map but is logically placed
between the building and Portage Bay. Currently the
main salmon run is chinooks. Soon the cohos should be
back in force. Birds like this spot.

Scaup (one female, pretty sure a Lesser)
House Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow

Pied-billed Grebe
Golden-crowned Kinglet (upper campus)

Mammals: Eastern Gray Squirrel, Rat sp.

The best places to see Anna's Hummingbird is near the
Harris Hydraulics lab (north side), in the trees near
the hatchery pond and sometimes near the dirt path
close to the Montlake bridge.
