After seeing Ken Knittle's post yesterday about the Lewis's Woodpecker on the South Bank Rd. that was found by Rose Dubouis, I had to try for it today. I arrived at the location in the early afternoon, but didn't have any luck at first. I saw another birder arrive so I joined up with him (Steve Hallstrom) and we walked down the road towards the Fresh Eggs sign. We were scanning the oak trees when one of the home-owners came out and asked if we were birdwatchers. We told the gentleman yes and we were looking for a woodpecker. The gentleman then showed us which telephone pole the woodpeckers use and that they were currently in his backyard. So he invited us into his backyard where Steve and I found the Lewis's Woodpeckers. The home-owner told us that the two woodpeckers have been coming to this location for at least 2-3 years in fall/winter. The Lewis's Woodpecker today was a lifer for me! Thanks to Ken and Rose for letting us know about these birds.
