On a trip to Scotland a couple of years ago, I noted that where I'd seen
lapwings in relative abundance while I lived there 1974-78, I now saw
only one. It was disconcerting because lapwings are one of my favorite
"shore"birds. Apparently, the decline for lapwings (as well as other
species) is real, as reported in the BBC.
