Hello Tweeters,
My wife, Kris, and I made an overnight trip to the Seattle area and wanted
to report a couple bird sightings.

At Nisqually, we observed a very dark juvenile "pealei" PEREGRINE FALCON
bolting westward across the main meadow just N of the visitor's center.
There were lots of ducks and gulls there, but I didn't have the scope in
hand; it was just a quick driving break from the freeway.

We were very pleased to see the AMERICAN BLACK DUCK at Juanita Bay, thanks
to all the previous postings and a local woman (sorry I didn't get your
name) who helped us find the bird. Like others, we too were able to see it
at very close range swimming and feeding along the beach, as well as feeding
in the bread-crumb mob.

We also found a pair of TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS at 12th St on the SW side of
Lake Sammamish. We're from the Eastern OR Cascades and ours are long gone,
but I'm not sure if this is unusual there for this time of year.

Perhaps the best part of the weekend was being able to see Mt. Rainier AND
Mt. Olympus on both days of our visit!

Until next time,
Steve Shunk
