Hi Tweets,

It's sunny today in Edmonds and the fog is only enshrouding Whidbey from
here. At the Fishing Pier the resident pair of BELTED KINGERFISHER was
quite active. A GREAT BLUE HERON was perched on the triple piling and
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were perched on the single piling. There were
BONAPARTE'S, MEW, and G-W/WESTERN hybrid GULLS. There were good numbers of
SURF SCOTERS (M&F) and BUFFLEHEADS (M&F). There were PIGEON GUILLEMOTS,
RED-NECKED, HORNED, and WESTERN GREBES, and 4 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS. Then
there were the usual ROCK PIGEONS and CROWS. At Brackett's Landing North
the species were the same but added MALLARDS (M&F) and a few male HOUSE
SPARROWS. At Water Street there was one pair of COMMON GOLDENEYE and a few
BUFFLEHEAD.

The Marsh seems pretty beleaguered these days. The construction of Condo
City on the south hill and the soil remediation project at Harbor Square are
pretty intrusive, both to eye and ear. The remediation project
(oil-contaminated soil) has blocked access to the boardwalk and its
observation platforms. The two observation platforms down the asphalt
walkway are still open. All I saw were 3 KILLDEER and one GREAT BLUE HERON.

Good birding,
