Vashon Island's CBC is Sunday, January 2. Sue Trevathan at (206) 463-7976, sue.trevathan at centurytel.net is the coordinator. Each year we have been counting more species. This year, it will be interesting to see if there is any discernable effect from the oil spill.

The count circle covers Vashon Island but also swings across Colvos Passage to parts of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. We can always use some extra help anywhere on the CBC but these sections especially could always benefit from more people, especially birders familiar with those areas. Those sections of the count often get very good numbers of waterfowl, interesting shorebirds and in some year's the count circle's only Mountain Quail.

Vashon has been getting some very interesting birds lately, adding a new species to the island list each month for the last three months. Who knows what we might turn up by New Year's?
