Over the last 4 years, I've seen Nutria several times at Juanita Bay Park.
Not surprising that they would also be at the Fill. At this point, they
thankfully don't seem to have established a foothold as they have at
Ridgefield. On a brief visit there (Ridgefield) this summer, I saw upwards
of 35.mostly in groups of 2-3 young with mom.

While beavers do frequent the Montlake Fill and even the ship canal, this
critter sounds like a coypu (aka nutria). They're considered an alien
nuisance in a number of areas, such as the Chesapeake Bay. I've also seen
them at Ridgefield NWR, and the Black River near Little Rock.
