I had heard a report that there was a BLUE JAY in Port Hadlock last weekend, but because of my work schedule I had not had a chance to check it out. This morning I found the Jay at a feeder at the corner of Third and Maple. It was actively calling and easy to locate as it move around the area. The BLUE JAY was in loose company of a couple of Steller's Jays.

As I was driving to work along the Beaver Valley road near the intersection with Highway 104 around 10:00 AM, I caught a glimpse of a small owl sitting on the edge of the road. It turned out to be a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL. The owl seemed dazed as though it might have collided with a car. There didn't appear to be any other injuries so I put it in my breifcase and took it to work. I waited for my brother to pick it up and contact Jamie Acker about what we should do with the owl. Well, Kingston was a zoo with an episode of "Extreme Makeover" being film there, so he was unable to pick the owl up. The owl waited patiently as I worked. By the time I arrived home it seemed much better, so we took a few pictures and released it. The juncos and sparrows probably won't be happy with me tomorrow.

Good Birding,
