The Lyle Christmas Bird Count will be held Sunday, December 19th. It would
be great to have you join us.

Some highlights:

Last year, thanks in large part to a great acorn yield in 2003, we had the
highest number of Lewis's woodpeckers of all the nearly 2000 count circles,
with 269 observations. The next largest number was 67 in a count circle in
New Mexico. The 2004 acorn yield was even better than 2003, but I am not
sure Lewis's woodpecker numbers are directly proportional to acorn yields.
This will be an interesting test.

We collectively observed 103 species on count day, including the only Acorn
woodpeckers in Washington.

Finally, now that my house is finished ( not yet completely furnished), I
am now able to host a chile and cornbread count compilation dinner,
beginning with the end the count.
