Subject: [Tweeters] a new gallery

I've spent the better part of the last 18 months taking photos of birds (and
other sundry), and a few weeks ago, i was compelled (ordered) to do
something with them besides put up a quick little webpage or two every week
or so of "new" items...

so, i went to work... two weeks later, i've revamped several galleries
(deleted, merged, created) and decided a singular BIRDS gallery would be an
interesting idea... it would tell me how many species i've photographed
during that time, and how many of them were actually decent pics...

what i didn't expect was that the total would be over 165 species (some of
which won't be on display due to quality or size (twenty-pixel black
oystercatchers, for example))... what this demonstrates, obviously, is a
lack of gainful employment and an absolute obsession with winged creatures
wherever found (ie, too much time on my hands)...

what DID make the list: 120 species, 175 images, mostly local to washington
state, mostly within the last 12 months... there are a few zoo shots, a few
european shots, a few good-enough-for-ID shots... however, the vast
preponderance are pretty nice, and i'd like to share my obsession with
you...

lastly, i want to thank maryfrances for her help in identifying some of the
birds that sibley / stokes / i disagreed on, especially with LBJs... i also
want to thank everyone else who has encouraged me over the last 18 months to
become a birder, not just a person who takes pictures of birds... Hugh,
David, Joyce, Megan, and of course Maryfrances, and more than a few others
whose names I'm sorry not to note here... ANY ERRORS ON THE WEBSITE ARE MY
OWN. PERIOD.

For those that have read this far and are still interested, please go to
http://www.parkgallery.org, click on GALLERIES, then CAREN PARK, and finally
BIRDS... once you've clicked on BIRDS, you should see the first 16 birds on
the page. if you click on the first bird listed (a cattle egret from two
days ago), the egret will display in a larger fashion... to watch each bird
like a slideshow, just locate the four small squares at the top of the
webpage, and click on the blue triangle ">" just to the right of the
square(s)... each and every picture should display after about 5-10
seconds, one after another for a Long Time... to watch each in your own
time, either click on the RIGHT ARROW (just to the triangle's right), or
click on any one of the thumbnails along the side of the enlarged image.

if you don't have a highspeed connection, please don't run the slideshow
unless you have HOURS to spend downloading; we're talking about more
megabytes to watch the whole thing than most people have in their
point-and-shoot digital cameras (grin)... i don't want to be responsible
for your computer melting.

please enjoy, and let me know if you have questions or comments OFF-LIST...
my apologies, as well, to those who might receive this twice. i owe you :)
