Birding's a lot like finding a needle in a haystack, isn't it?? In this
case the needle = Blue Jay, haystack = Hadlock WA.

I arrived at 3d & Maple around 10 AM, spoke w/a gentleman who had seen it
shortly before that. Naturally the bird had left the area about 10 min
before my arrival. I hung out in the area for about 20 min, then started
prowling around on foot. Spent 90 min wandering the streets, seeing and
hearing just about everything but the Blue Jay, even near Cedar and
_________, left for a while and returned, still no joy. Here's what I
saw/heard, in no particular order:

Am. Crow
Steller's Jay
No. Flicker (red-shafted)
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Song, Fox, and Golden-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Steller's Jay
Spotted Towhee
Red-tailed Hawk
Bald Eagle
Did I mention Steller's Jay??
Am Robin
Bewick's Wren
Gull sp.
Black-capped Chickadee
Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Biggest surprise, and the Bird of the Day, was a Townsend's Warbler.

Ran into Mary Frances Mathis, who was also in search of the BLJA, she
mentioned having seen a Merlin.

I may head back up there tomorrow, what the heck, it's only 55 min. from
Bremerton and a nice drive. Today was the 3d time I've tried to see a BLJA
in WA. Someday, someday... *sigh* (No, haven't even tried for a
White-tailed Ptarmigan!)

Cheers,
Mary
