Birders,

Today Chris Siddle, Mike Force and I were driving up Silver Star Mountain
when C. Siddle spotted a bird perched on top of a dead tree beside the road.
It was a NORTHERN HAWK-OWL. The exact location was about half way up Silver
Star at the intersection of Silver Star Rd and Aspen Road. The Hawk Owl was
very active. It was listening intently to mice scurrying around on the
leaflitter. It did catch and consume one large mouse. It was moving actively
from tree to tree. It was very photographable and quite tame, despite busy
traffic and barking dogs. Sounds like an invasion is the works.
