Sorry for the late report. Michael Fleming and I did some birding in South
and South-central WA this weekend. Here are the better birds that what we
found:

11/20/04:

Ridgefield, Carty Unit:
-Tundra Swan (~30)

Columbia River Gorge NSA:
-Neither Yellow-billed Loon nor Ancient Murrelets were present at the
Bonneville Dam
-Tundra Swan (~30 at Franz Lake NWR)

Bingen/Lyle area:
-Tundra Swan (3 at Bingen Pond)
-Acorn Woodpecker (3 at Granary Tree; see Steve Mlodinow's WOS hotline
posting; we saw the birds from the spot described in Opperman first; you can
get better looks at them by taking the first right heading east on Old 8 for
about 1/3mi, after about 1/2mi there is a little hill on the right and a
trail leading towards the Granary tree)
-Lewis's Woodpecker (~20 in Garry Oaks around the intersections of Old 8 and
Balch Rd)
-Red Crossbill (12 at Lyle-Balch Cemetary in pines)
-Golden Eagle (at MM10 on 124)
-Lesser Goldfinch (~20 at MM10 on 124)
-Rough-legged Hawk (1 at MM24 on 124)

Othello, Para Ponds:
-Tricolored Blackbird (3, one immature bird calling incessantly)
(The blackbird flock of about 700 birds was at the feedlot just NW of the
ponds. Listen to the calls, if something sounds like an angry cat, you're in
business)
-Yellow-headed Blackbird (3)
-Trumpeter Swan (2)
-Tundra Swan (~25)

Vantage area:
-Northern Shrike (1 adult at Huntzinger Rd., 1 adult on Old Vantage Hwy)
-Townsend's Solitaire (Old Vantage Hwy)
