Getting permission was no sweat. The guy who lives in the church-house said that I should tell all birders that they were welcome to park on his property (lots of room). You just walk downhill along the road from there. The next house down is where the ACWO are, and they are plenty easy to see from the road, or were when we were there.

I think that Stefan is discribing the "old" granary tree South of Old Highway 8 while the one that Steve mentions is the one on Balch Road North of Old Highway 8 which was discovered this fall by Gina Sheridan. The Acorn Woodpecker population may have gotten large enough to establish a new colony or they may just be replacing the aging 'old" granary tree.
Thank you Stefan for clearing up where you were standing to view the other granary tree. Bob Hansen, a top-notch birder lives on this road very near to the spot you describe.
