Since there is still interest in the Black-tailed
Gull, I thought that I would pass on a trip report
that I received from a good Idaho birder. Brian made a
serious effort for the gull last weekend
(11/20-11/21), but did not see it. However, he did see
a TROPICAL KINGBIRD at North Cove, which I never saw
anyone else post. His trip report is attached below.

As Charlie surmised, it appears that the BT Gull is
gone for now. Anyway, I wish I had been with Brian
when that Tropical Kingbird flew in to North Cove.

Dear Gina,

Thank you for all of your help with planning my trip
to Washington. We
birded for two days and still did not have any luck
finding the black
tailed gull. We sure tried to cut and paste some of
the mew, herring, Thayers, california, glaucous
winged, and ringed billed gulls together to make a
blacktailed. We had a great time camping out and
visiting Westport. I hadn't been there in a few years.
The weather was outstanding for the Fall. I did
however get one new bird out of the trip- a TROPICAL
KINGBIRD flew over us on Saturday and set up a feeding
area right on North Cove point for an hour or two. We
were able to get pictures and I'll send them along
ASAP. I've seen lots of these in Mexico and Peru but
it has long been a nemesis bird for me so success! We
looked for it again on Sunday with no luck.

Wealso saw several large flocks of Dusky Canada Geese
which may or may not get split soon. I caught a
glimpse of a gray whale not far from shore- it only
surfaced twice for us to see it.
thanks again. It was a great trip.
