Over Thanksgiving we spent time with family in S.W. Wash. and even got in a little birding. We birded around Vancouver Lake and south and east of Ridgefield. Some interesting finds were......

Great Egret........104 birds at the mouth of Whipple Creek, Clark Co.. South of Ridgefield. On 25 Nov.

Sandhill Cranes.....300+ birds off the Woodland Dike Access Rd., Cowlitz Co. 26Nov.

Canada/Cackling Geese.......6000+ along the Woodland Dike Rd. 26 Nov. ( Could this be a contrived split ? ).

Highway 14 ( Klickitat Co.)

Lewis' Woodpecker........25 birds between Bingen and Lyle with a loop onto Balsh Lake Rd.

Red-breasted Sapsucker.......1 ad. just below the schoolhouse ( The Wood home) along Balsh Lake Rd.. 26 Nov.

ACORN WOODPECKER........3 ad. birds in dead P-pine along the Balsh Lake Rd. below the schoolhouse home. 26 Nov.2004

NOTE: We had the great fortune of meeting Ann Marie Wood and her son Glen. These good folks ask that birders NOT block the Balsh Lake Rd. or the local driveways in order to look for the Acorn Woodpeckers down hill from the schoolhouse.Watch for additional parking options soon to come to this site thanks to Glen. Please pull off the road and show some respect to those folks that will come behind you. Glen and his family live in the outstanding restored Schoolhouse home along Balsh Lake Rd.. Thank-you to Ann Marie Wood and Glen and family for there great hospitality and kindness in sharing their area with us and our fellow birders.
