This afternoon between 2:30 and 3:00 we counted about 30 swans on the ponds
near the potato plant on McManamon Road, just outside of Othello towards the
Potholes Resevoir (Columbia NWR). The ponds are on private land, not part
of the refuge, and a map we have of the refuge fails to show them.
Unfortunately, we did not have our good pair of binoculars, and so we were
unable to identify them. They were on the back part of the pond at some
distance from the road. This is about the third or fourth year running that
we have sighted swans on that pond around Thanksgiving time.
