In case anyone is interested, the general location in Grays Harbor County near Porter where the Lewis' Woodpecker has been observed is good also for the other typical western Washington woodpeckers. In my two visits I had 5 each time, all 6 between the two trips. (Sorry, I don't have road names anymore.) Porter is on Hwy 12 (south-)east of Elma. Cross the Chehalis River at Porter and turn left at the sign to "Oakville." The Lewis' Woodpecker is active from just before the Grange Hall (opposite side) to about the 3rd house past it on the right. (The "Farm Fresh Eggs" sign has been taken down.) Pileateds and Flickers are also in this vicinity--they like the big snags. Take the road at the Grange Hall to the end, turn left, and note the maple-lined lane angling off to the left. Flickers, Downys, Hairys and sapsuckers are in these woods, and probably Pileateds according to the neighbors. Lincoln's Sparrows nearby in the brambles in the overgrown field, which is shared by eagles, harriers, red-tails, kestrels and Barn-owls.
