It's always interesting when a small bird comes to one's hand to feed. Reminded me when I was in Hawaii and during the months many Pacific Golden Plovers would winter in the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaiian name for them was Kolea. The Hawaiian name for the endemic duck for the Main Islands is Koloa. Not to be confused.

Many moons ago, about 40 years, when I was stationed in Hawaii as the administrator for the USFWS, I had the occasion to go to the island of Kauai. Going all the way up to the Waimea Canyon on the west side of the island you would arrive at Kokee. There was an elderly lady living there. She would go outside an call "Come plover,come
plover plover, come plover plover."And darned if a couple of them would fly to her and start feeding out of her hand. We thought it fantastic.
