The Blue Jay was at the same place it has been reported in Hadlock on Saturday the 27th. The people in the trailer home on the corner of 3rd and Maple are keeping a pie pan on top of a fence post full of seed to attract the jay. We heard the bird in the trees and then it swooped into the seeds. Great sight for us former midwesteners. We also stopped by the Port Townsend Shipyard. Great show as we watched a Merlin chase around flocks of Sanderlings, Black Turnstones, Black-bellied Plovers and Dunlins. There were several hundred shorebirds present. The Merlin didn't make a kill during the hour we were there, but it sure stirred up the shorebirds. We searched long and hard for the Surfbirds and Rock Sandpipers mentioned by the Sullivans last week. We were there just after high tide and the birds were resting on the pilings and dock.
