In addition to the large flock of Surfbirds and Black Turnstones on the
rocks between the construction zone at Duwamish Head and Don Armeni Park
this season, Rhinoceros Auklets have been in the area. On 11/23 Mikael Rosen
and I observed one with a flock of Surf Scoters west of Duwamish Head near
the outflow from the treatment plant -- about 1000 feet offshore. On Sunday
afternoon, 11/28 around 3 pm, Don and Ann Schaechtel found 6 Rhinos close in
by the boat launch at Don Armeni Park, and at 3:45 pm I observed 3 Rhinos
there, of which two were close to shore. It was a good opportunity to get
close-up views of these interesting alcids, and the first time I've seen
them east of Duwamish Head.

The usual suspects were there, too: 1 Horned Grebe, 1 Red-necked Grebe
(still showing a reddish neck), c. 10 Double-crested Cormorants, 6 Barrow's
Goldeneyes, and assorted gulls.
