Tweeters,
Spent the past few days at American Lake on Ft. Lewis - not much
activity except for the usual forest species, chickadees, kinglets, etc.
Very few raptors seen along the impact-area prairies on the base, but
did find a couple of Red-tailed Hawks, a Cooper's Hawk, and an American
Kestrel. A Northern Shrike was seen in about the same area along the
north edge of the impact area that's accessed via the south gate or via
the C-5 mockup to the south and first right turn.

The lakes and ponds (Chambers, Johnson Marsh, Lewis Lake, etc.) were
mostly devoid of ducks, except for the south end of American Lake, which
was alive with Common Mergansers (about 300), Bufflehead, Common
Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Mallard, Hooded Merganser,
and a few others. Two Bald Eagles were seen to make passes at the ducks,
but without success.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
