This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Sunday,
November 28th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is PINE GROSBEAK.

Sightings for Sunday, November 28th:

At Mt Seymour, 6 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen on the trail to Mt. Seymour, about
1.5 km from the parking lot . Also, a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL was seen just past
the top of the ski lift on the trail to Mt. Seymour.

At Maplewood Conservation Area, 2 NORTHERN PYGMY OWLS were seen; one near
the bridge and the other near the feeders.

At Boundary Bay, a BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen just west of the foot of 72nd
St. Also here were 3 SNOWY OWLS and a BARN SWALLOW. The GYR FALCON was
seen just west of the foot of 88th St.

At Terra Nova in Richmond, a flock of 30-40 COMMON REDPOLL were seen along
the dyke.

At Jericho Park in Vancouver, a SNOW BUNTING was seen near the western edge
of the lagoon.

In Stanley Park, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen at the north side of the
seawall just east of the Lion's Gate Bridge. 15 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were
seen just north of Second Beach pool.

At Reifel were15 COMMON REDPOLL, the immature GOLDEN EAGLE, MOUNTAIN
CHICKADEE, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, NORTHERN SHRIKE, GREAT-HORNED OWL, and
4 SANDHILL CRANES.

At Brunswick Point, 3 SNOWY OWLS were seen from the parking lot looking
across Canoe Pass. Also here, 2 SWAMP SPARROWS, 2 WESTERN MEADOWLARK, 1
NORTHERN SHRIKE, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, and 1 GREAT-HORNED OWL.

Sightings for Saturday, November 27th:

At Reifel, a PINE GROSBEAK was seen near the tower with AMERICAN ROBINS
feeding in a crabapple tree.

At Minnekhada Regional Park, a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL was seen on Oliver Rd
which borders the park on the south. It was seen 200 metres east of the
road leading to Minnekhada Lodge.

In Surrey, the MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was seen again at a feeder in the
northeast corner of 160th St. and 82nd Ave.

In Boundary Bay, at the foot of 72nd St. were 2 SNOWY OWLS and 6 BARN
SWALLOWS.
