I hope you continue to look up these days. Several good-sized groups of
turkey vultures have passed through our area, and they normally continue to
come in to Salt Creek until about the 10th of October, meaning they could
show up here a few days later. Maybe. This weekend promises to be
excellent weather, so there might be a lot. Following are the turkey
vulture reports from British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon for September
2004:

01 - 3 near Blizzard Gap, Oregon; 3 near Adel, Oregon; 21 at Lakeview,
Oregon; 4 at Beatty, Oregon; 2 over the Skokomish River
02 - 4 in southern Marion County, Oregon; 4 east of Packwood taking off
from fir trees; 30 in the Carlin, B.C. area
04 - 2 north of Stanwood; 1 east of Bottle Beach; 1 immature over Brady
Loop; 8 at Tokeland
05 - 1 adult, 1 immature near LaPush; 6 at the Johns River WRA; 6 circling
over I-5 north of Albany, Oregon; 1 eating roadkill near Willapa Bay; 6 at
Cedar by the Sea, B.C.
06 - 3 circling over Nisqually NWR; 1 at Stanwood
07 - 3 at Clay Myers SNA/Whalen Island; 6 kettling over the Johns River WRA
08 - 6 over Packwood; 1 south of Chehalis; 2 over Hwy 12/Satsop River
09 - a feeding turkey vulture at Christmas Island, B.C.; big numbers at the
mouth of the Salmon River, B.C.; 1 at Tokeland; 1 over Hwy 109/Burrows
Road; 2 at Satsop; 2 at Hwy 12/mp32; 12 west of Rochester; 1 at I-5/mp72
10 - 1 heading south over Seattle
11 - 12 soaring up and down the Teanaway Valley; groups of 2 and 6 at
Mission Creek, B.C.; 22 at Kekuli Bay near Vernon, B.C.
12 - 1 at Point Roberts; 1 southwest of Littlerock; 3 at Ocean Shores; 5
at Grays Gables; 15 west of Brady; 6 near the Moses Lake airport; 59 in
Oregon between Ashland and Portland, 5 in southern Washington, all from
I-5; 6 circling a dead deer near the Elwha; 3 over Watmough Bay, Lopez
Island; 1 at McArdle Bay; 1 near the Lopez ferry terminal
14 - 2 over Maple Ridge, B.C.
15 - 1 flying southeast over Nisqually NWR with 3 redtails; 3 near Sequim;
2 sluggishly ascending east of Cashmere; 13 on Hornby Island, B.C.
16 -- 7 over Richland
18 - 1 at the Hayden Snow Goose Preserve; 8 over Marysville Middle School
heading south; 6 flying south from Camano Island; 8 between Machias and
Snohomish; 1 over Maple Ridge, B.C.
19 - 8 over Lincoln Park heading south; 5 circling over trees east of
Littlerock; 1 along Lummi Bay; 4 between Snoqualmie and North Bend; 1 at
North Bend; 1 at Cle Elum; 1 at the Oyhut WA; 3 over Ocean City; 7 at
Tokeland; 2 on the Samish Flats, both flying low over fields; 30+ at
Nanoose Bay, B.C.; 75 just south of Deception Pass, Whidbey Island,
kettling up and then heading southeast; 20 south of Auburn; 1 over Maple
Ridge, B.C.
20 - 35 kettling over Steigerwald Lake NWR; 120 at Beechy Head, B.C.; from
the OBOL report " a very heavy migratory movement over the weekend
21 - 12 passing Eagle Cove on San Juan Island in migration mode heading south
22 - 15 kettling near Kirkland; 2 hanging around the Quilacene River
23 - 24 roosting in alders near the Brady Loop Road; 3 at Graveyard Spit,
Tokeland
24 - 20 near Marysville; 9 in a thermal over Laurelhurst; 14+ at a roost
in Walla Walla County; 15-20 just south of Des Moines; 1 north of Sumner
25 - 5 at Tokeland; 1 at Midway Beach Road; 2 near Bottle Beach; 2 along
the Brady Loop Road; 15 lifted off from a roost west of Whitman MIssion; 32
over Spencer Island
26 - 5 at First Nations Road, B.C.; 8 over the Yakama Indian Reservation;
5 along Brady Loop Road; 7 at Tokeland; 1 near Bay City; 2 west of the
Johns River; 7 southbound over Burien; 22 over Hornby Island, B.C.; 1 over
West Seattle; 2 in Twin Lakes; 16 kettling over Hazel Dell
17 - 10 over Hornby Island, B.C.
27 - 2 over the Clearwater Casino
28 - 19 drifting slowly south over Bellevue; 75 over Ballard heading
south; 1 at the Roslyn exit; 100 heading south (no location given)
29 - 1 at Sprague Lake; 19 heading south over Tukwila; 1 flying south over
Marymoor Park
