This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Friday,
October 1st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Friday, October 1st:

At the foot of 104th Street on the evening hightide the following species of
shorebird were reported: 1 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, 8
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, 8 RED KNOTS, 1
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 1 YELLOW WARBLER.

At the Highway 17 "Scrape Pond" were 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

In South Surrey a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was reported.

Sightings for Thursday, September 30:

At Boundary Bay between 104th and 96th streets were 2 SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPERS, 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, 4 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS and 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS.


Wednesday, September 29:

2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were at the flooded field along Highway 17.

At Boundary Bay between 104th and 96th streets were 4 MARBLED GODWITS, 5
juv. RED KNOTS, 4 juv. AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 4 juv. BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS.

At the Holly Park complex on the corner of 106th and 148th in Surry were 6
Nashville Warblers.


Tuesday, September 28:

3 juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were in the flooded field off Highway 17.

Another SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at the foot of 104th, and the
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was further east at the pilings. Also here were 2
MARBLED GODWITS, 2 juv. AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 2 juv. RED KNOTS.


Monday, September 27:

A MARBLED GODWIT was at 104th Street in Delta.

In a late report for Sunday, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen with RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS in a field between 104th and 112th streets in Delta, and along
the foreshore were 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN and a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER.
