Subject: [Tweeters] two unidentified birds,

Over the past few days, I've been fortunate to have photographed a number of
interesting things at Tracy Owen Station (Log Boom Park), ranging from
incoming waterfowl (gadwalls, northern shovelers, american widgeons, etc) to
the downright unique... One of the unique is a DCCO who either has a
left-wing deformity or has been mangled by something (propeller, coyote,
dog, ??)... According to at least one park-goer, the cormorant has been
seen often this summer, so it would appear the defect / deformity / injury
has not stopped him...

In addition, there are two items of unidentifiedness I thought I'd ask help
with:

One is a goose of some specie, with an overall white colouration (back is a
very light grey, almost everything else is white) and an orange/yellow bill,
about the same size and general body shape of the Canadas... Unlike Snow
Geese, he has white primaries and slightly-darker (light-grey)
secondaries... He doesn't have the neck length of a swan, but he also has
no colouration in common with a Canada Goose... As he has been wandering
around the park waters with the CAGOs, he leaves me wondering if he's a
hybrid or leucistic...

The second is a duck, Mallard-like in his overall shape and behaviour... He
spends most of his day with Mallards, yet when you see him alongside others,
you note that he is probably 50% larger than the largest Mallard around...
If he's a hybrid, his colouration is one of the more subtly-beautiful of all
the hybrids I've known, quite unlike any "normal" Mallard drake. I've never
seen a size differential so great...

For those that are interested, the birds are located in the Caren Park
Gallery section at http://www.parkgallery.org, under "Tracy Owen Station -
Log Boom Park"...

Thanks!

ps: does anyone know why Tracy Owen has been renamed to Log Boom Park?
